Last year, I placed myself in a quiet room for a bit of study time during my usual lunch period. As I was studying, a small group of then-seniors and Mr. Addington came in with a few boxes of pizzas, which immediately caught my eye. I asked for a slice as my stomach began to growl, and they told me only under one condition, I helped them write a few letters for a club. No big deal, right? Little did I know, this would little letter writing project would completely rearrange my view on the world, not everyone had the same idea of how a human being should live.
I talked to a senior when it was just about class time; I asked her how I could get involved, how I could continue this club after they had graduated. She lead the way and ever since then I have been pretty involved. I got quite a few of my friends to join the club and we've been working on projects and doing our best to change the world as we know it.
Amnesty International is a global movement with millions of supporters, members, and activists in over 100 countries and territories who strive to end abuses of human rights. Their vision is for 'every person to enjoy all the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards.' They are not apart of any sort of government, political ideology, economic interests, or religion and are funded primarily by their membership and public donations.
With my passion and want to strive to make this world a better place, I took the initiative to keep the club going within Parish. I cannot express how exciting this is for me, to actually be doing something that I know will make a big impact on the world, not just nationally, but globally.

ReplyDeleteIt's so good that you're taking a lead and really getting involved once you heard about this club. A lot of people don't realize that leading doesn't just take power and bossing people around to help but to show what you want to change or help by being a good example. I can tell you're really passionate about this and the affection and persistence you are showing towards this club is really inspirational to other leaders and follower and helps make good progress.
